What is the Omicron Variant?

The corona virus is mutating as it spreads from person to person. This type of mutation is known as its variant. When the second wave came, it was because of the Delta variant.

On November 9, the (WHO)World Health Organization announced that the variant named B1.1.529 is a variant of concern, hence the name Omicron. Omicron is the 15 alphabet of the Greek alphabet. The Omicron case originated in South Africa and Botswana. To date, the Omicron variant has spread to 38 countries. In India, on December 2, 2021 two cases were reported in Karnataka. Both of them are 46 and 66 years old.

The Omicron variant has about 50 different fire mutations than the Delta variant. This means that there are 50 variations in the Omicron variant. About 30 of these changes are not spike proteins. Spike protein is the same virus that is used to attach to our Cell. Many vaccines have been developed to treat this spike protein.

Considering the Omicron variant, India has released two types of lists :

1. At Risk Countries
2. Non At Risk Countries

From December 1, those coming from At Risk County will be required to undergo a mandatory RTPCR test. And even if this report is negative, he will have to be quarantined at home for 7 days. And 2% of those who come from Not At Risk County will be RTPCR test. And also in Gujarat, the first case of Omicron variant has come in Jamnagar.

Whenever there is a mutation in any virus, there are four main questions. And from these questions we can know whether a new wave will come or not.

• Sevrity
• Vaccince efficacy

WHO doesn’t even know how easily this variant goes from one person to another. The virus will cause severe symptoms in people and will make them more annoying. They don’t even know what they are doing. They are doing research on this. Many vaccine spikes are made with proteins in mind. And there are more than 30 mutations of this variant.

According to Dr. Fauci, those who have not received the vaccine for 6 months and are able to get the booster dose should be vaccinated. And those who have not been vaccinated should be vaccinated immediately.

Will there be a third wave?

According to the Ministry of Health, there has been a lot of vaccination in our country. The capacity of the vaccine is also very good. And because of the immunity that people get from vaccines, the chances of a third wave are very low. But still no definite answer. The final things will be known as the days go by.
